Meditating with Crystals
There are many different types of healing stones and crystals that can benefit a meditation practice and physical healing.
There are as many stones as there are purposes and prices vary. It can be overwhelming to choose as there are so many beautiful stones but selecting the ones that are right for you can be as simple as trusting your intuition or doing your research and pre-determining what your intentions are.
Much like a meditation practice, it helps to find focus and clarify what your intentions are for using crystals in your practice. Think about what you would like the stones to do for you. According to crystal experts, the shape or size of a stone doesn’t really make any difference in its effectiveness so choose what feels right to you. If you don’t know what you want then just go by your intuition.
I decided to start with a small selection of four stones. As it turned out, I chose all green stones, which despite their individual purposes, the colour green speaks to the heart chakra. I felt that I couldn’t go wrong with these! There are a whole host of healing properties for each of these but here is a brief synopsis of the key benefits of each of the stones listed below (taken from the Crystal Bible, A definitive guide to Crystals).
Labradorite- Highly mystical and protective. It raises consciousness and connects with universal energies.
Green Calcite- A mental healer and restores balance to the mind and letting go of what’s familiar and comforting but which no longer serves.
Green Flourite- Good for absorbing negative energies, accessing intuition and an effective auric, chakra and mental cleanser.
Aquamarine- A stone of courage. Reduces stress and quiets the mind. In ancient times this stone was believed to counteract the forces of darkness and procure favour from the spirits of light. It was carried by sailors as a talisman against drowning.
For my meditation I usually light a candle and place the crystals on my meditation mat. While meditating I sometimes hold one of the crystals in my hand for extra energy. These are very simple things to set up but they turn the corner of any room into a place of calm and serenity that I want to sit in a little longer and call my own.
